MISSION
Urban Musical Theatre, is a nonprofit performing arts theatre organization with a primary focus on diversity, and inclusion. Our arts education and training programs provide black and brown individuals opportunities to use and develop their artistic talents. Our driven inspiration to improve the minority representation in the theater industry is our heightened perspective in which we foster.

Our History & Purpose: Established in 2005 the Indiana Performing Arts Centre (IPAC), exists to increase the exposure of Black Americans in theatrical productions. IPAC has a history of providing access to the dramatic arts for people of color and under-served populations through its ability to draw crowds from local churches, schools, civic organizations, and the community at large.
Our Purpose: IPAC’s purpose is to keep alive the spirit of Black Theatre by offering top-notch, performances, employment opportunities, children’s theatre, educational programs and community outreach in all aspects of theatrical productions.
Our Commitment: IPAC is committed to providing arts education programs that promote life-long learning to a diverse community; and to change the face of Indianapolis theatre. IPAC will continue to increase its diversity in theatrical performances and provide access to the arts.

Driving Factor
We are further motivated by the disparities in performance opportunities and training that exist for Black individuals and organizations in performing arts. We educate, enlighten, and empower youth and adults to have access in arts programming. We provide the professional experience to showcase their talents. We offer performances and surrounding activities that broaden the exposure and appeal of Black American culture by:
celebrating the culture, history, spirit and voices of people of color.

- providing a permanent home for artists of color that enables those artists to explore, experience and present a wide-ranging variety of dramatic programs reflecting significant African American literary, artistic, and cultural achievements.
- providing theatre and life skills training to traditionally underserved populations.
- educating and engaging audiences to foster and understanding among people of all cultural backgrounds.
- expanding our outreach beyond Indianapolis to the tri-state region of Indiana, Illinois, and Kentucky.
